The Bend & Stretch Program wasn’t created by accident. This program was developed because I went from struggling with back/hip pain, feeling uncomfortable and tired to feeling flexible, energized, and confident in my postpartum body.

While being pregnant with both of my children and then after delivery, I realized just how much my body went through. Having so much tightness in my low back that started during pregnancy, and upper body tightness from pregnancy and nursing, I knew I needed to do something about it. Especially, having mild scoliosis in my thoracic (upper spine) region is always something I need to be cautious of.

I started researching some of the (few) postpartum programs that were on the market at the time…. and I was shocked that nothing seemed beneficial or worth it. Or that I could fit into my busy schedule and do in the comfort of my own home.

So, I set out to create something truly different.

Having over 20 years of experience, including a degree in biology, a minor in chemistry, and being licensed as a physical therapist assistant has allowed me to put together a stretching routine that works.

There isn’t a specific time frame for the program and you will have full access to ALL of the stretches when you buy the program. However, Ashlea will be sending you weekly emails over the next 6 weeks giving you additional education and benefits for the each specific body region. If you get overwhelmed easily it’s recommended that you follow along with Ashlea throughout the 6-weeks. No worries if life gets you off track, you have lifetime access to the program and can pick back up where you left off.

A few days after giving birth. If you’re feeling tight and sore, and as long as you are performing gentle stretching it’s alright. Be cautious with not going too wide or drastic. However, if you are having pain, DO NOT stretch that day.

You need to wait at least six (6) weeks before performing any major stretching. Waiting to be cleared by your doctor is recommended.

Yes, as long as you feel up to it and do gentle stretches in the beginning. Waiting at least three (3) weeks after delivery is recommended.

Yes, but you need to be more aware of your body limitations due to the relaxin hormone present in your body. The relaxin hormone loosens ligaments and joints. It can remain elevated for up to 12 months after giving birth, and may be higher for those who breastfeed.

You really don’t need much equipment:

  • Yoga mat (even if you are stretching on carpet.  The mat will help keep you from slipping)
  • Supportive shoes during the standing stretches.  (Helps you with stability)
  • Stretch strap (to get those good deep stretches).
  • Pool noodle.
  • Chair for modifying some of the stretches if needed.
  • Towel or small pillow (to use as neck or lumbar support if needed).

 

Anywhere!  That is up to you.  As long as you have enough room to stand up, lie down flat with about 3 feet on each side.
